Dutton & Peters Ltd has enjoyed a long and varied history in the construction industry dating back to 1946. Our growth, reputation and repeat business has come historically from a diverse range of public and private clients with construction being at the “core” of what we do.
The company was originally founded by two friends, Cecil Dutton & Jim Peters, their vision was to combine respective experiences of both Land Agent and Builder to create a construction business specialising in post war domestic builds. The business grew rapidly, providing employment for the local community with a workforce of over 200 in the mid-fifties. The unfortunate death of Jim Peters in 1958 saw Cecil’s son Ron join the business to support his father.
In 1976 Ron set up a Builders Merchants which enhanced the business by ensuring supplies for each customer’s building requirements. Additionally, the timing coincided with the developing DIY market and provided a valuable amenity to both the community and local tradesmen until the merchants was acquired by Travis Perkins in 2008.
Peter Dutton, Ron’s son, joined the business in 1984 seeing a 3rd generation of the Dutton family involved in the business. Peter continues to run the company today being appointed as Managing Director in 2003 following his father’s retirement.
